Method of Wired Eavesdropping Devices Localization

1. BASIC OPERATION
LOCALIZATION OF THE DETECTED EAVESDROPPING DEVICES USING ST-500 PIRANHA OR ST-301 SPIDER WITH A HELP OF NLJD ST-402 CAYMAN OR ST-403 CAYMAN NONLINEAR JUNCTION DETECTOR.
This method can only be used to locate devices that incorporate electronic parts. If during testing a transmission channel of the eavesdropping device is detected, it becomes necessary to localize it.
In case of detection of uncoded transmission channel of the eavesdropping device it is possible to define the place of its installation by means of player of test sound. This method of localization is called "Acoustic method".
Localization of the eavesdropping device (with an encoded transmission channel) or a non-operating eavesdropping device (containing semiconductor elements and connected to the cable) is performed using the  ST-402 CAYMAN or ST-403 CAYMAN.

1.1. ACOUSTIC METHOD OF LOCALIZATION
The use of the acoustic method is possible only if an uncoded transmission channel of a eavesdropping device is detected.
To implement the method, two operators are required. One operator moves the player of test sound around the room, the other operator controls the level of the received signal using ST-500 PIRANHA or ST-301 SPIDER 
Action with player of test sound:
1. Turn on the player of test sound and reduce the volume level.
2. Slowly move the player of test sound within the room.
Analyzer operator actions:
1. Turn on LFA or WR (depending on which device the eavesdropping device was detected).
2. Connect headphones. Listen to an acoustic background of the room.
3. Control level volume of the player of test sound.
The installation place of the eavesdropping device will coincide with the place where the audibility of the test sound was best.

1.2. LOCALIZATION USING ST-500 PIRANHA OR ST-301 SPIDER AND ST-402ST-403 Cayman:
By this method it is possible to localize the eavesdropping device having electronic components.
Two operators are necessary. One irradiates the tested cable with a NLJD, another - controls the NLJD signal level in the cable by means of the Analyzer.
At irradiation by a NLJD of the electronic devices close to the tested cable, but not connected to it, the operator of a NLJD receives responses on second and third harmonics, the operator of ST-500 PIRANHA or ST-301 SPIDER will not detect any signals.
If the NLJD irradiates the electronic device connected to the cable, NLJD operator captures nonlinearity.
The operator of ST-500 PIRANHA or ST-301 SPIDER hears a characteristic signal of a NLJD in headphones.
The place where both operators detect the responses is an installation site of the eavesdropping device.
This method is most effective when using NLJD ST-402ST-403 Cayman in the SEARCH mode.
 
ST-500 PIRANHA or ST-301 SPIDER operator actions:
1. Disconnect all regular devices from the cable.
2. Connect the tested cable to the Analyzer.
3. Turn on the Analyzer.
4. Turn on LFA.
5. Connect pair on which the signal of the eavesdropping device was detected (LFA or PR) or connection to the cable is revealed (NL or REF).
6. Connect headphones. Listen for a specific signal of a NLJD ST-402ST-403 Cayman and in case its being heard - report immediately about it to the second operator.

ST-402, ST-403 Cayman operator actions:
1. Turn on a ST-402ST-403 Cayman and start the search in SEARCH mode.
2. Move the antenna of Cayman along the tested cable.
