Questions about ST-402”CAYMAN”
From time to time we receive questions from our customers that ST-402”CAYMAN” does not detect sim cards or small electronics components and others.
Two main reasons WHY this happens:
User did not make calibration of the device in the beginning of the search and during it.
Answer: For correct calibration, please point the device towards surface with no electronics.
Press and hold the square button for 5 seconds, afterwards device will switch into the calibration mode.
After calibrating the device, point it towards RED test, should detect it at the distance of 1 meter. And then point it towards BLUE test, it should detect it at the distance of 30 centimeters.
Also after detection of an unknown entity, when searching with ST-402”CAYMAN”, for example:
RED full + BLUE half = supposed man-made semiconductor. Go in to AUDIO mode and check for acoustic response.
BLUE full + 4-5 RED = False positive alarm. Go to AUDIO mode and check for acoustic response.
The light indicators start blinking, means that the devices power supply is very low. Take out the batteries and charge them using the provided charger.

What is the purpose of differential search mode in RF receiver channel?
The differential search mode is designed for easing the operation load of the operator. For example:
-When working with device ST-500, the operator is coming in to an unknown room. He opened the RF receiver channel checked all available signals at the entrance. Then switches in to differential mode and checks the room. Upon appearance of new signal, they are displayed on the screen in violet color. Impulse signals are shown in yellow. In addition, the remaining signature of all previously received signals are shown in dark red.
What about checking power lines?
When checking power lines of 220V. Switch in to Wired receiver mode and select power lines.
Afterwards device will ask You to choose diapason. Select one and press enter. After entry in to that mode on the upper side of the screen, You will see the pair 1-2 is chosen and the lightning symbol is lit indicating that you are working with power lines.
How do I check low current lines with ST-500”Piranha”?
Go in to Wired receiver mode select low current lines and press search. Device will go through all available pairs and upon detection of any unsolicited device on the line will display change in the voltage of the check line. Upon detection of such artifact, select the pair using courser buttons. After selecting the pair in question there are three options of continuation of operation. One press enter and listed to the sound in audio mode. Two, add bias voltage plus then minus and check if the acoustic bind is heard. Three, amplify the noise in the earphones to check for dynamic microphone.
How does direction finder in WAM-X25 work?
When working with the device WAM-X25 you can select the direction finder to the find out where the signal at a certain frequency is coming form. Select direction finder mode by pressing the direction find button on the face side of the device. Device goes in to direction find mode and on the screen a radial diagram is shown. By selecting the frequency from the list, device receives the signal and shows it strength. The operator slowly turns around and direction of the incoming signal is shown on the screen.
Please note that directional antenna of the direction finding mode is situated on the side of the device and is built in to the main unit.
ST-301 Reflectometer operational principle
Device sends a signal of 1 kHz through the checked line and receives the reflection from the end of the line. Sometime operators ask, why some pairs in the reflectometer are shown in blue. Those pairs are called “twisted pairs”, meaning that inside the checked cable those pairs are twisted between themselves and are longer in length. Such pairs show double length than the ordinary ones.
What operative devices do you recommend for beginning TSCM practitioners:
From our personal experience we recommend using a non linear junction detector in combination with a multifunctional detection device. But in some cases this set may vary from user to user.
What are the advantages of HSA-Q1?
