Technique for Examining a Person Using Handheld Metal Detector

Description that is given below will present you or renew your knowledge about method of inspecting a person using handheld metal detector.
- Maintain privacy while searching. During the search, it is recommended not to touch the person being searched with a handheld metal detector.
- Read the instruction manual before using the SPHINX metal detector. For more effective work with a metal detector to identify prohibited metal objects, it is necessary to conduct regular testing of personnel, measures to improve the skills and training of security personnel and law enforcement agencies.
- Handheld metal detector when scanning a person should be at a distance of 5-10 cm from the body. Avoid touching the body or clothing of the person being searched with the metal detector. However, in some cases, when inspecting a person in outerwear (down jackets, jackets, coats, etc.), it is necessary to bring the metal detector to the body of the inspected person at a distance of less than 5 cm to ensure the best quality in detecting metal objects.
- Use the SPHINX Vortex metal detector with maximum sensitivity. An exception may be the case when the search is carried out next to large metal objects (for example, a floor with metal reinforcement).
- Inspection of a person should always be carried out according to the same algorithm in compliance with a clear sequence of actions.
The illustration below shows the most effective method for examining a person using the example of the hand-held metal detector SPHINX Vortex S
Description of method of examination of a person with a handheld metal detector SPHINX Vortex.
1. Regularly during the shift, check the operation of the metal detector by bringing it to metal objects on your body (buckle, watch, etc.). Scanning at a speed of no more than 0.5 m / s, bring the metal detector to a local metal object. Triggering the metal detector (light and sound alarms) at a distance in accordance with the product passport will ensure that the metal detector is working and you provide an effective search.
2. Ask the inspected person to lay out all the metal objects that are with him (keys, telephone, coins, etc.). It is also necessary that the person being searched take off his hat and, if possible, large outer clothing.
3. The examined person should be facing the operator, legs - at a distance of at least 50 cm from each other, and arms spread apart parallel to the floor.
HHMD1.jpg4. Start at the top of one of the subject's shoulders. Hold the detector horizontally and parallel to the front of the person's body. Scan half of the front of the body from top to bottom to the foot, move to the other foot and continue scanning the other half of the front of the body from bottom to top to the other shoulder, as shown in Picture 1 . Pay attention, if the length of the sensor (active scanning zone) of the metal detector is less than half the width of the body of the inspected (for example, the model of tactical metal detector SPHINX Vortex S ), then the algorithm should be changed towards increasing vertical passes with an offset so that the entire body surface is in the scanning zone ...
hhmd2.jpg5. Pass the metal detector over the top of the shoulder and work from the shoulder towards the hand. Move the metal detector to the bottom of the hand and follow to the armpit. Scan the side of the body down to the foot, move the scanning part of the metal detector to the inside of the leg. Continue to search from the bottom up with the transition to the opposite foot, and then, reaching the opposite foot, move to the outside of the leg and go up to the other armpit. Repeat the movements in reverse order that you did with the opposite hand, as illustrated in Picture 2 . Please note that during the scanning process, touching the body of the searched is not allowed.
hhmd3.jpg6. Ask the inspected person to turn around 360 degrees. The algorithm that was used for the face side should be repeated for the back of the human body in accordance with Picture 3.
hhmd4.jpg7. If your inspection method requires footwear inspection, refer to Picture 4 . Ask the searched person to lean on a table or any other object and raise his leg, bending it at the knee at an angle of 90 degrees, as shown in the picture. Scan the shoe from the sole side. Repeat with the other leg. When metal instep supports or other metal inserts are in shoes, both feet must trigger the same metal detector. The best option for inspecting shoes is to use an x-ray introscope.
8. For the head scan, start from the frontal region and go over the top of the head to the neck. Move metal detector around so that its entire surface is scanned. Pay special attention to women with lush hairstyles. Please note that during scanning with a handheld metal detector, no contact with the person's head is allowed
In the previous part of the inspection methodology with the help of a hand-held metal detector Vortex-S, we examined the process of scanning an inspected person; the next step will be the operator's actions when metal objects are found.
- When the metal detector generates a metal object deteunfasten the belt and move the buckle away from the point of operation of the metal detector. The operator must then re-scan the trigger area.
hhmd5.jpgIn the case of the presence of metal structures in the floor, it is recommended to scan the area of the inspected feet while maintaining a constant distance from the metal detector to the floor, as shown in Picture 5.
